ISLAMABAD, Dec 07 (APP): The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) in Islamabad celebrated its 18th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Day on Thursday in presence of a large number of Ethiopian Diaspora in Pakistan, media, civil society and friends of Ethiopia. The day was celebrated colorfully at the Embassy with a national zeal and fervour. Speaking on the occasion, Ethiopian Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula said the people of Ethiopia were celebrating the 18th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Day of Ethiopia today. He said the government FDR Ethiopia was committed to defend its sovereignty, diversity and aspiration of its nations. “Today, Ethiopia is a symbol of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and our Prime Minister is leading the efforts to promote national unity in Ethiopia,” he added.

Headquarter of EHRC (Photo: Addis Standard)Addis Abeba – The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has issued a statement outlining severe human rights abuses affecting civilians in Ethiopia’s Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, and Oromia regions. In the Amhara region, ethnic clashes in November 2023 within the Awi and West Gojam zones resulted in multiple casualties, as verified by the Commission. In Oromia, a series of attacks within a week in the Arsi and Qellem Wollega Zones claimed the lives of numerous civilians. On the same day, at least 12 civilians lost their lives in a similar attack in Sole Digelu Kebele. The EHRC reiterated its commitment to ongoing monitoring and evidence gathering in the affected zones.

GENEVA – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced estimates for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production. In 2023, SAF volumes reached over 600 million liters (0.5Mt), double the 300 million liters (0.25 Mt) produced in 2022. SAF accounted for 3% of all renewable fuels produced, with 97% of renewable fuel production going to other sectors. “The doubling of SAF production in 2023 was encouraging as is the expected tripling of production expected in 2024. Demand is not the issue: Every drop of SAF produced has been bought and used.

The trial, which began on 20 October, included 44 flights carrying 6,936 vaccine doses to clinics in remote communities. Following the success of the trial, the medical drone network will double in size, and will run for an additional 90 days from early 2024. The drone project was funded by Red Lightning, a non-profit organization, and operated by Kenya-based logistics firm Freight in Time Group and the Information Network Security Agency of Ethiopia (INSA) government agency. The scheme employed Swoop Aero’s automated Kite drone – which is capable of flying up to 120km with a 3kg payload. Swoop Aero also recently announced that it would also work with Red Lightning, alongside the Luke Commission, the UPS Foundation, and USAID, to establish the first medical drone network in Eswatini in 2024.

After a 30-day project, Ethiopia’s first long-range drone network delivered medical supplies, including 6,936 vaccination doses in 44 flights to six remote areas. The most recent stage of a multi-year project to apply supply chain innovation to the last-mile delivery of medical supplies in the area is drone logistics. Beginning in early 2024 and lasting an additional 90 days, the medical drone network will double in size. Swoop Aerodynamics:Australian-based Swoop Aero is a provider of drone technology, maintenance, technical assistance, and pilot training. By loading the drones with the necessary medical supplies, they make sure that the right supplies are delivered to each clinic.

Jesse David of the Pan African climate justice alliance is the one who wrote a song. "The main goal of writing this song is just to show that the youth have a voice in the climate discourse. But even creatives, we can do that as much as of being an engineer. Pro testors say this year's demonstrators have been limited in the number of people allowed to participate and which climate issues they're allowed to address.
