Business News of Monday, 29 December 2025Source: www.ghanaweb.comThe Minority in Parliament is calling for a bipartisan parliamentary inquiry into what they describe as a critical financial loss to the state by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, amounting to $214 million under the Bank of Ghana’s Gold-for-Reserves programme. According to the Minority, the inquiry should be conducted on a bipartisan basis to establish the circumstances under which the losses occurred and to recommend safeguards to prevent a recurrence. All they have been doing is rebranding, renaming old things and sometimes even hiding the details until we, the Minority, bring them to the public’s attention,” he said. The Minority is also pushing for the establishment of a parliamentary ad-hoc investigative committee, demanding that the Bank of Ghana and the Gold Board make public the full details of the arrangement underpinning the transaction. The Minority added that they expect the Governor of the Central Bank and the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board to appear before the proposed committee to answer questions.

Minority Leader vows to resist democratic declineHe argued that such cosmetic changes, without technical competence or strategic vision, risk economic mismanagement and public distrust. “Fellow Ghanaians, let us be brutally honest; this government has shown, in its very first full year, that it came with no ideas and has governed with no new ideas. "Ghanaians have found out that the promise to reset Ghana was nothing more than rebranding projects and initiatives that were already in place by the NPP government. But rebranding without the requisite competence can be disastrous," he noted. Oppong Nkrumah urged Ghanaians to recognise that governance is more than packaging and cosmetic changes.

Business News of Monday, 29 December 2025Source: www.ghanaweb.comThe Chamber of Licensed Gold Buyers (CLGB) has responded to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) report of provisional losses of about US$214 million under Ghana’s Gold-for-Reserves (G4R) program. According to the Chamber, the figures relate to the Bank of Ghana’s balance sheet, not the operations of licensed gold buyers or the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) directly. In a statement sighted by GhanaWeb Business, the CLGB, which represents tiered licensed gold buyers operating under the GoldBod aggregation model, said the reported losses largely reflect timing gaps, international gold price volatility, and operational execution challenges. “Gold sector reforms must be anchored not only in national interest, but also in sound commercial design and risk management. Meanwhile, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed the IMF’s assertions, insisting that the report misrepresents both the structure and execution of the Gold-for-Reserves programme.
