Immunotherapy improves long-term overall survival in patients with advanced melanoma, according to the results of a number of large international studies reported at ESMO 2024. “At ESMO 2024 we are seeing many studies in many different cancers showing that immunotherapy can work for a long time.”Results of a phase 3 trial of immunotherapy with an anti–programmed death (PD)-1–based therapy showed continued long-term survival benefit in patients with advanced melanoma. The melanoma-specific survival is very high in this group of patients.”Importantly, the long-term survival benefit with immunotherapy is also seen in routine clinical practice, outside clinical trials, Dr Donia continued. Results showed a statically-significant and clinically meaningful improvement in overall survival with immunotherapy plus chemotherapy before surgery and continued immunotherapy after surgery; the five-year overall survival rate was 86.6 per cent in patients given immunotherapy and 81.2 per cent in the placebo group. The phase 3 NIAGARA study randomised patients to immunotherapy with durvalumab plus chemotherapy before radical cystectomy followed by continued immunotherapy or to only chemotherapy before surgery.

It set up a tense finish at the Stade de Luxembourg but Northern Ireland hung on and the point, coupled with a 1-1 draw between Bulgaria and Belarus, saw them top the group by two points. It was almost a repeat a minute later as Northern Ireland got their goal. Five minutes into the second half Northern Ireland were celebrating again, thanks in large part to a howler from goalkeeper Tiago Pereira. Bradley’s header from Price’s cross should have been routine for the goalkeeper but Pereira somehow let it squirm past him – giving Bradley the 100th Northern Ireland goal of O’Neill’s two spells in charge. Schon was stretching moments later to keep out Galbraith’s shot as the game opened up, but it stayed level and Northern Ireland hung on.

Admissions to the high-dependency unit (HDU) at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin have increased by 76 per cent since 2018. The report noted that admissions to the HDU often surpassed bed capacity. Gynaecology admissions rose significantly in 2023, which was “most likely” due to a higher surgical caseload through additional theatre capacity. There are two beds designated for high dependency care, with staffing capacity for a maximum of two admissions. The Rotunda also has a pathway to ICU beds at the nearby Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, for women requiring higher-level intensive care.

The Medical Council President has encouraged more doctors to consider acting as medical experts. The current shortfall is contributing to delays in the Council’s complaints process. And trust me, these examples are only some of the recent indignities experienced by the Seminoles football program – which has also become the target of some pretty masterful trolling. Not by accidentBut I don't believe the Seminoles football program's ongoing misfortune is by accident or coincidence. Nope, I’m convinced it’s pure, simple, cold-blooded cosmic payback for FSU’s shameful embrace of the stupid Tomahawk Chop and War Chant – both of which continue to perpetuate some of the dumbest stereotypes that exist regarding Native Americans. Because let's be clear about this: The Tomahawk Chop and War Chant are offensive behaviors. So why should FSU continue to get away with allowing the Tomahawk Chop and War Chant?
