Six suspects have been arrested following an intensified security operation targeting violent criminal gangs in Coast region. The six were arrested in separate as security agencies moved to dismantle the gangs’ operational structures. “The seizure of weapons alongside narcotics highlights the compound threat posed by these organised criminal elements to public order and community safety,” the DCI said. The incident is said to have provided crucial leads that helped detectives narrow down on the remaining gang members and their possible hideouts. Members of the public have been urged to cooperate with security agencies by sharing information that could aid investigations.

The Nation Media Group has resolved to shut down its Mombasa Bureau in its latest operational realignment. In an internal circular dated Friday, February 20, NMG Group Managing Director George Odundo revealed that the offices will be closed in March 2026. Odundo, however, clarified that the staff at the bureau still had their jobs, but would be working from home. "We are building a more resilient Nation Media Group that is equipped to thrive in a digital-first world," Odundo wrote. Mombasa joins the list of other bureaus that have been closed since 2022 in a bid to reduce office spaces and consolidate occupancy at the Nation Centre.

A rogue police officer posing as a traffic cop was arrested on Thursday morning while allegedly trying to extort money from a businessman and motorist in Nairobi’s Muthaiga area. The officer had also extorted an expatriate who is a foreigner of $300 (Sh38,700) and Sh9,000 in Karen, police said. It is at this point that the suspect allegedly demanded Sh50,000 to facilitate his release without being taken to court. Sensing foul play, the victim raised alarm, prompting traffic police officers who were on duty along Park Road to respond swiftly. He had traveled to Nairobi and got traffic uniform that he was using in his mission.
