Ambassador McCarthy’s solution in draining the corruption “swamp” in Liberia is a three-fold approach:1.) In the case of LACC, the head is a Nigerian citizen and a close friend of President Weah. Ambassador MaCarthy has to be as tough as his boss, President Trump or it is going to be business as usual. Good that Ambassador MaCarthy brought up the issue of the Millineun Challenge Corruption (MCC) that pumped $257 million into Liberia to solve crisis of electricity and safe drinking in Liberia. Ambassador MaCarthy, please take with you enough “study materials” to Liberia because the swamp in Washington, DC is no match for the 173-year old corruption swamp in Monrovia, Liberia.

MONROVIA – The Organization for Women Empowerment (OWE) attention has been drawn to the heartless, inhumane attacks on childhood and womanhood by men in the constant habit of sexually abusing women and girls. Frustratingly, some women, in support of their husbands’ attitude, have aided the perpetrators by concealing the incidents from legal authorities. The Organization for Women Empowerment (OWE) has a serious concern with the ways our women and girls have been treated in Liberia and with the length of time it takes to get justice and with nothing substantive coming out of these cases sometimes. OWE is at the same time calling on the UN Women, and the UN Human Rights including other International Human Rights Organizations to accordingly press the government to ensure an end to violence against women and children. Meanwhile, OWE is encouraging local governments in the leeward counties to tighten their belts against rape cases and ensure that every woman’s right is protected and justice is served to victims of violence.

Way too many times we have deceived ourselves that government is creating the policy environment for the private sector to thrive. The lessons learned from the ebola crisis are sufficient to instruct us that we must invest in the Liberian owned domestic private sector. Of course again there is constraint of access to capital for Liberian owned private sector. I am told that “nothing ventured; nothing gained.”It is hard time that we begin to take risks and empower our Liberian driven private sector. And yes, failure is an option but we begin to invest in the Liberian private sector in deeds and not just words.

Liberia: In the Corruption Fight, The Gander Must Be Treated Like the GooseThe President’s bind eye and deaf ear to the LNBA’s investigative report, recommendation and the public outcry for the suspension of Cllr. Nwabudike and the launching of an independent investigation or review of the LNBA’s findings show clear hypocrisy in his quest to fight corruption. Nwabudike and the launching of an independent investigation or review of the LNBA’s findings shows clear hypocrisy in his quest to fight corruption. IF CORRUPTION would end in Liberia, it would take a realistic and holistic approach without fear or favor. Liberia would continue to wallow in the menace of corruption as long as we continue to treat the goose better than the gander.
