MONROVIA – The Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit or German Cooperation (GIZ), as part of the Liberian-German Health Program, has formally ended its project employment-oriented support to women in the health sector (EWH). The EWH has been implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare and other stakeholders since 2017. The project has aimed to improve career opportunities for women in Liberia’s health workforce, in particular in technical professions and management positions. GIZ project director Viktor Siebert said the three-year project has been working with the Ministries of Health, Education, Gender and stakeholders to improve career opportunities for women in health. The Ministry of Health and other government partners here in Liberia also contributed thru the staff they provided to implement the program,” Siebert stressed.

Buchanan Grand Bassa County – Several sub-national staffs and employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has begun a two-day training in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. Monrovia – The United Bank for Africa (UBA) on the commemoration of its service day last Friday made a donation of printer, a cultural drum set and several learning materials to the Monrovia Elementary Demonstration School on Clay Street. The donation was made in partnership with the UBA Foundation. As it relates to projects under the foundation, she said that Read Africa is one its projects that ensure that every kid in Africa is able to read a book. Jerome Korkoya chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC) told the Liberian Senate on Wednesday that the Commission will need US$17.6 million to conduct the 2020 special senatorial election and the national referendum simultaneously in 2020. According to Korkoya, when he appeared before the Senate plenary, the US$17.6 million budget is an adjusted budget from the US$24.4 million for elections and US$4.8 million budget previously submitted by the NEC to the Ministry of Finance and Development planning. He also told the Senate that US$14.8 million of the USD$17.6 will be used for elections while US$2.6 million will be used to conduct referendum.
