The Libyan Illegal Migration Control Department on Tuesday repatriated 248 illegal migrants. Among them, 120 were deported by air back to Niger, while the remaining 128 were deported by land back to Chad, Badraddin Ben-Hamed, head of the Deportation Office of the department, told Xinhua. The Deputy President of the Presidency Council Musa al-Kuni, who was visiting the department at the time of the deportation, described the process as “humane and appropriate.”“I express my gratitude to all those working in the Illegal Migration Control Department for their efforts to provide proper and humane living conditions for the migrants, despite lack of capabilities,” al-Kuni said.

Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed the need to not only disrupt activities of human traffickers, but to collectively strive for traffickers to be brought to justice in a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin. In comments to the press at the Chancellery in the German capital following the meeting with Chancellor Scholz, Abela said Malta is focused on preventing arrivals and fighting against human trafficking. Photo: BSSA total of 143 Bangladeshi nationals, who were held at a detention centre in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, were repatriated to Bangladesh today. With the utmost efforts of the Bangladesh High Commission in Tripoli in association with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated to their homeland. The foreign ministry and IOM officials welcomed them at the airport upon their arrival. The process to repatriate irregular Bangladeshis from Libya is underway as 373 more Bangladeshis will be repatriated tomorrow and on 5 December.

A total of 143 Bangladeshi nationals, who were detained at a detention centre in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, returned home today. A chartered flight of Buraq Air (UZ 0222) carrying the Bangladeshi nationals landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 5:00 am on Tuesday (November 28). With the all-out efforts of Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli, Libyan government and direct cooperation of International Organization for Migration (IOM) the detained Bangladeshis returned home. After their arrival at the Dhaka airport, Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and IOM officials welcomed these Bangladeshi citizens. On this occasion, IOM gave each of them Tk 5896 as pocket money and some food items.

The Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) announced Saturday that for the first time since 2013, its assets in France are free of any judicial seizures. It confirmed that the latest seizures were lifted after the Paris Court of Appeal ruled in two rulings issued on 16 and 23 November that they were invalid. The LIA revealed that it is now working on the second phase of international arbitration procedures with the Belgian authorities regarding the seizure imposed by them on its assets and funds. This seizure, it added, is in violation of the investment promotion and protection agreement between the two countries.

TRIPOLI, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Monday said 163 illegal migrants were rescued off the coast of Libya in the past week. "From Nov. 19 to Nov. 25, 163 migrants were intercepted and returned to Libya," IOM said in a statement. The rescued migrants included 20 women and 12 children, IOM said, adding that one dead body of an illegal migrant was retrieved. So far this year, a total of 15,057 illegal migrants were rescued and returned to Libya, while 947 died and 1,256 went missing on the central Mediterranean route off the Libyan coast, according to IOM. In 2022, the number of rescued stood at 24,684, while the dead and the missing reached 529 and 848, respectively.

A fishing boat with 573 migrants landed on Lampedusa, Italy on Monday after being rescued off the island by Coast Guard patrol boats, Italian ANSA News reported. The boat had departed from Libya, according to ANSA. The group, which includes four women and two minors, was taken to Lampedusa’s migrant hotspot. As of November 21, 150,777 migrants and refugees have arrived in Italy by sea since the start of the year, up 60% over the same period in 2022 according to interior ministry figures. Of the arrivals, around 70% have landed on Lampedusa.

Regarding the winning companies, their specialization, and the financial prizes awarded to them, Al-Masalati stated that first place went to the Biscotti Project, receiving a financial prize of 20,000 euros. Al-Masalati confirmed that the third place was for the Room Vibes project, which received a financial prize of 10,000 euros. The Attorney General’s Office reported Saturday that the Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the detention, pending trial, of the Financial Affairs Control official in the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG). The detainee is accused of illegal profits, deliberately submitting official documents that were falsely attributed to the PFG, issuance of bank cheques that he used when paying the price of twenty-three motor vehicles that he deliberately seized and collecting LD 5.68 million six hundred and eighty thousand dinars from the PFG’s funds.

“Poor communities in developing countries are losing their farms, homes, and incomes due to a crisis caused by developed countries and corporations." A Green Climate Fund that was first proposed at the 2009 climate talks in Copenhagen, and began raising money in 2014, hasn't come close to its goal of $100 billion annually. “Developing countries should be ready to manage these events independently, as seen with COVID-19. It says allocations will prioritize those most vulnerable to climate change, but any climate-affected community or country is eligible. Developing nations were disappointed that the agreement didn't specify a scale for the fund, and wasn't more specific about who must contribute.

A high-level source of the Libyan National Army’s General Command said in press statements that any political dialogue between the Libyan actors that does not include an invitation to representatives of the Libyan Government is an unbalanced and unacceptable. LNA source stressed: “We communicated our position to the UN envoy in our last meeting with him in Benghazi, and we were informed of his acceptance of adding representatives of the Libyan Government” (the Parliament-appointed government, led by Osama Hammad). The source added that the UN envoy did not adhere to what he said in the meeting, and therefore LNA would not participate in the dialogue.

The NOC has a plan that includes projects stabilizing production and maintaining pipelines and equipment, and projects for increasing production, Bengdara said. "We promised to reach 1.3 million bpd and we have reached 1.295 million bpd before the end of the year. Oil production is Libya's main economic source and it represents approximately 90 percent of the economy of the entire country.
