The first, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, is leading the international community and trying to isolate the second, Fathi Bachagha. The tension has risen a notch in Libya where, at the end of August, the two rival Prime Ministers, Fathi Bachagha and Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, provoked violence in Tripoli. The French newspaper assures that it is Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Dbeibah who is at the origin of this blockage. Abdel Hamid Dbeibah therefore makes life difficult for Fathi Bachagha. By isolating it from the international community, it is in the process of marginalizing it and posing as the sole interlocutor with the international community.

Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History says a prehistoric human skeleton found recently in a flooded cave system along the country’s Caribbean coast was actually discovered and registered by the institute in 2019 and will not be threatened by a nearby tourist train project. Earlier this week, archaeologist Octavio del Rio said he and fellow diver Peter Broger saw the shattered skull and skeleton partly covered by sediment in a cave. They reported it to the institute, which had not publicly spoken of the find until its statement Thursday. The institute says that scientific analysis has still not been carried out on the remains, but that it is 400 yards (meters) from the path of the government’s Maya Train project and not threatened.

The country’s current political crisis stems from the failure to hold elections in December 2021 and the refusal of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah who led a transitional government to step down. In response, the country’s east-based parliament appointed a rival prime minister, Fathy Bashagha, who has for months sought to install his government in Tripoli. The Dec. 24 presidential vote was postponed over disputes between the rival factions on laws governing the elections, and controversial presidential hopefuls. At the last Berlin conference in June 2021, where Germany and the United Nations brought together 17 countries, Libya’s transitional leadership headed by Dbeibah underlined its commitment to Dec. 24 elections. Guterres said that unfortunately “it was impossible to reach a full solution” to Libya’s political crisis through the Berlin process, “but it was possible to avoid the worst” and he supports another Berlin conference.

A court has jailed a Libyan man after he admitted to having presented a forged identity document to immigration officials upon his arrival at the Malta International Airport yesterday. His lawyer, Victor Bugeja contested the forgery charges after it emerged that the charges had been issued from a template. The disputed charges were withdrawn during the sitting, after which the accused changed his plea and admitted the remaining charges. On Bugeja’s insistence, the court specified in its judgement that the admission was limited to the use and possession of the document in question and not to having forged it. The court declared the Alhadar guilty on his own admission of the remaining charges and sentenced the man to imprisonment for six months.

CAIRO - 14 September 2022: Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid, in a tweet on Wednesday, wished speedy recovery to those injured in a fuel tank blast in Sebha city in Libya on Tuesday. Speaking during the session was also Aly al Halaby, Lebanon’s permanent representative at the AL. He stressed the need for all members to support his country, which is hosting the majority of Syrian refugees – who make up one-sixth of the population in Lebanon. Lebanon has been, despite its limited potentials, acting to secure the needs of those refugees since the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011, Halaby said. “We have been calling on sisterly and friendly countries to support Lebanon … until the Syrian refugees are back to their country,” Halaby told the session.
