After more than two days of deliberation, the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday reached a resolution that “demands” Russia to “immediately” withdraw its troops from Ukraine. The Delta State Police Command has nabbed the principal of Royal Children International School, Asaba, Mr. Emmanuel Okafor, for allegedly raping a six-year-old pupil at the school toilet in Asaba, the state capital. It was gathered that the principal was conducting early morning devotions for the students when he was summoned to the proprietor’s office for questioning over the rape allegations against him. “The proprietor was peeved about the unfolding drama between the principal and the minor who was continuously saying ‘he (the principal) did it’,” source said. This strange discovery was said to have prompted the mother to question the girl who confessed the alleged rape by the principal. It was also learnt that a test had already been carried out on the pupil and her hymen was damaged.

The Federal Government on Wednesday ordered domestic airlines to reverse the recent over 60 per cent hike in airfares on domestic routes. It gave the order after investigations by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission showed that the airlines might have unanimously agreed on airfares hike during meetings by the Airlines Operators of Nigeria, their umbrella body. “The commission’s understanding from intelligence so far gathered is that there was significant controversy and or an initial lack of consensus with respect to coordinated conduct resulting in setting airfares. Irukera added, “Specifically, Air Peace, Azman Air and United Nigeria Airlines immediately proceeded with the increase. “The FCCPA prohibits conduct or any coordination between competitors including on the platform of trade associations,” the commission stated.

About 120 Students of the Pharmacy Department, Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) recently engaged in strengthening sign language skills, disability awareness, exposure and learning experience with deaf students. She explained that the activity was to strengthen sign language skills, disability awareness, exposure and learning experience of 100-level students of LASCOHET. Some of the activities they taught the lpakodo deaf students were personal and menstrual hygiene, hand washing, COVID-19 protection, drawing and painting, singing and dancing among others. Another Teacher, Mrs. Adedokun Oluyemisi Omoboade, advised people to be loving, patient and learn sign language. The Principal, lpakodo Junior Grammar school, Mrs. Eleso Mabel Oluwatoyin, appreciated the gesture of SpeakingFingers, LASCOHET and the state government for approving the laudable initiative.

Clearly, to undo the current mess, Nigeria needs more advanced minds and patriotism than had been shown by current and past handlers. The 2022 Committee parades majority of those that matter in business and today’s politics. Indeed, at the twilight of an un-performing administration, it dawned on the group the 2022 Committee that security and unity of the country ahead of the 2023 poll must be prioritised. Unfortunately, we expected the 2022 Committee to have addressed these issues and at least issued a road map to overcoming the problems. So, the 2022 Committee needs to come clean.

But that is, when a true and properly effective vaccine has been developed for the disease. However by the end of 2021, three countries (China, India and Cuba) have been able to produce a proper vaccine for COVID -19. The Canadian High Commissioner, Kevin Tokar and a crew of Canadian sailors visited the Oshodi area in Lagos on Tuesday, where they participated in a chess tournament with some children. Founder of the Chess In Slums Africa initiative, Tunde Onakoya, revealed this via his verified Twitter page on Tuesday. He said, “On this day in history, the Canadian High Commission visited Oshodi under-bridge. “We received the Canadian High Commissioner, Kevin Tokar and eight sailors from the HMCS Goose Bay-a Kingston class patrol ship in the Royal Canadian Navy led by Commander Daniel Rice”. China has started evacuating its citizens from Ukraine, state media reported Tuesday, amid fears for their safety due to the invasion by Beijing’s ally Russia but also reports of resulting hostility from angry Ukrainians. A further 1,000 Chinese nationals will leave Ukraine on Tuesday bound for Poland and Slovakia, both European Union member states, the report added. While countries including the US, UK and Japan evacuated diplomats and urged citizens to leave in the weeks before the invasion, China waited until Thursday before announcing it would organise charter flights to evacuate its nationals. China has said around 6,000 of its citizens are based in Ukraine for work and study. Two other EU nations — Hungary and Romania — will provide assistance to Chinese nationals coming from Ukraine, the embassy said in a Monday statement.

It has been revealed that some marketers are selling petrol above N300 per litre at filling stations across the country. This is almost a month after the scarcity of premium motor spirit threw the country into an energy crisis.
