The Nigerian Army has dismissed two soldiers attached to 241 Recce Battalion, Nguru, Yobe State, after finding them guilty on two-count charge. According to the Acting Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Abdullahi Osabo, the suspects were found guilty on two-count charge; namely: failure to perform military duties; and conduct to prejudice of service discipline. The suspects had their ranks reduced from lance corporal to private before their complete dismissal. Recall that police in Yobe State apprehended Lance Corporal John Gabriel with service number N/A13/69/1522 and Lance Corporal Adamu Gideon N/A13/70/6552, both attached to 241 Recce Battalion, Nguru, Yobe State after allegedly killing a renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Goni Aisami in cold blood. With the release of the amount, operators and travellers will now heave huge sighs of relief in terms of running their operations. Due to their inability to repatriate their ticket sales, Emirates had earlier last week threatened to suspend all flights from Nigeria, effective from 1st September, 2022. Similarly, there were indications that British Airways was equally considering suspending operations in Nigeria from December 2022 if payment of its trapped funds in the country is not paid.

Nigeria now joins South Africa and Kenya as the three African nations to launch 5G services. South Africa received 5G first in 2019 through a humble rollout by provider Rain, while Kenya saw Safaricom launch its first 5G services in March 2021. The NCC held its first 5G spectrum auction in December 2021, where MTN and Mafab Communications were awarded licenses. While MTN has managed to launch its 5G per the scheduled time, Mafab has reportedly been given a five-month extension for its rollout of 5G in the country. By October, MTN Nigeria expects to increase the rollout of 5G sites exponentially, taking the superfast internet to 500 – 600 more sites across Africa’s most populous nation.

The Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria has announced its change of name to the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria. This is as the council also banned the use of foreign models and voice-over artists on Nigerian advertising media. 23 of 2022, bans the use of foreign models and voice-over artists on any advertisement used on the Nigerian advertising space with effect from Ist October 2022. “All advertisements, advertising and marketing communications materials are to make use of only Nigerian models and voice-over artists. “Advertisers, advertisement agencies, media houses, advertising community and the general public are hereby enjoined to take note.”
