UN chief slams ‘immoral’ profiteering amid global energy crisis
Secretary-General António Guterres said it was “immoral” that major oil and gas companies are reporting “record profits”, while prices soar. It notes however, that rising energy costs may price out developing countries, especially the most vulnerable communities, from energy markets. “Governments need the fiscal space to support their most vulnerable populations to avoid worsening levels of energy poverty or losing energy access altogether. And it makes clear that the Ukraine war and global energy crisis that it has caused, is a stark reminder that energy resilience and a stronger push for a renewable energy transition is needed. The brief stresses that short-term policies and protection measures be used to mitigate the crisis, while in the medium-to-long-term, renewable energy should be championed to meet net zero goals, tackle energy poverty, boost and diversify the global energy mix.

Ohanaeze criticizes Buhari over comments on insecurity in South-east
The Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari over his recent comments on insecurity in the South-east. Mr Buhari, on Saturday, condemned attacks against “non-indigenes” and law enforcement officials by terrorists in the South-east. It needs to be added that the solution to the insecurity in the South-east lies in the enormous powers of the presidency,” Mr Ogbonnia said. The group accused Mr Buhari of ignoring the South-east and appointing service chiefs based on “ethnocentric and religious considerations as against military competence”. They stressed that tackling insecurity in the South-east would be difficult in the face of the alleged continuous marginalisation of the region.

Misconduct: Board suspends radiographer for 2 years
1 The Disciplinary Committee of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), has suspended one Dr Anthony Ugwu, for two years over alleged professional misconduct. 4 The Registrar said the board heard and determined a case against Ugwu, who was found guilty of contravening the code of conduct. 7 The registrar said that Ugwu was also ordered by the disciplinary committee to pay N1million to offset the incidentals incurred by the board. 8 He said that Ugwu refused to honour invitations by the Investigative Panel and Disciplinary Committee of the board and had allegedly posted several derogatory remarks about the board to a fellow senior colleague. 9 Okeji said Ugwu also had circulated an official letter of the board not addressed to him on the social media.

Children risk malnutrition with open defecation
OPEN defecation is the human practice of defecating outside (in the open) rather than into a toilet. Lack of sanitation, and particularly open defecation contributes to the incidence of many waterborne diseases. She spoke at the one-day media dialogue on the launch of open defecation free (ODF) Roadmap in Oyo State, in Ibadan. Dr Babatunde Ogunbosin, a consultant paediatrician at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan stated “open defecation has a lot to do with diarrhoea diseases. Howbeit, the Chairman of RUWASSA, Mr Najim Omirinde said that the open defecation campaign to start in the state will jumpstart Oyo state’s journey towards ending open defecation while it also stops children from being affected by the negative impact of the exercise.
