Kidnapped traditional ruler in Plateau State, Da Gyang Balak, has been rescued by troops of Operation Safe Haven. It was learnt the kidnapped monarch was freed on Monday night. The Military Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven, Major Ishaku Takwa, confirmed the release of the traditional ruler in a statement on Tuesday. Takwa said, “Immediately the incidence was reported, the commander Operation SAFE HAVEN Major General Ibrahim Ali placed the troops of Sector 6 deployed at Riyom on red alert and to embark on hot trail of the perpetrators. “Consequently, the troops in conjuction with other security agencies, Vigilante group and Hunters conducted clearance operations in the mountenious region of Sabon Gida Kanal, Gero and Dahol general area.

He stated that “when we first drilled our borehole, we had no issues; there was plenty water and we were happy our water problem was over but immediately people saw that our borehole could produce water, those that drilled earlier but didn’t get water started drilling boreholes again and suddenly, water from our borehole dwindled. “When wells dry up, children are the ones missing school to fetch water. The Nigerian government is conscious of its water situation and has been putting in place various policies to ameliorate the situation. This calls for collaborative and bold efforts at finding solutions to the prevalent water situation.

The members of the Ogun State House of Assembly who had been invited for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning have said they would not honour the invitation because of a suit they had filed against the Commission. The EFCC had written to the Ogun Assembly requesting for information on all budget appropriations and allocations of the House from May 30, 2015, till date. The commission also asked the Clerk of the Assembly, the speaker, and members of the House to appear before it on separate dates. As of the time of this report, only Mr Kadiri had appeared before the agency. In an interview he granted journalists last November, Mr Kadiri alleged that his signature was forged to swindle the state assembly of about N50 million.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has slated its town hall meeting for the North West geo-political zone for tomorrow (Wednesday) in Kano. The guild, late last year, announced plans to hold town hall meetings across the six geo-political zones, kicking off the event in the South West zone in November, last year, in Lagos. With a theme: “Agenda Setting for Sustainable Democratic Culture,” the main objective of the meeting, which is being supported by the United States (US) Embassy in Nigeria, is to assess the media performance in consolidating Nigeria’s democracy – citizens’ verdict and outlining media agenda for the future. In a statement by its President, Mustapha Isah and General Secretary, Iyobosa Uwugiaren, yesterday, the professional body of all the editors in Nigeria, said the meeting would provide a platform for stakeholders to remind editors and other managers of the sacred duties they are tasked to perform by the Constitution on behalf of the citizens. Those invited to the meeting, which will be followed by a two-day capacity building for 50 editors in the zone, are the Emir of Kano, traditional/religious leaders, leading pro-democracy/human rights activists in the region, renowned scholars from the academic community, pro-media rights groups, students from different higher institutions, faith groups and the media.

The people of Umualum Enugu-Agu Achi community in the Oji-River Council Area of Enugu State, on Monday, staged a peaceful protest against what they described as indiscriminate police arrest and extortion of villagers for committing no offence. Ugwuanyi Rescue Us”; “We are tired of police intimidation and molestation of our people”; among others. Oluedo urged the governor to reign in on Dr Oluedo to stop using the police to harass them for seeking solutions to their village problems. He also urged the State Police Commissioner to prevail on his men from harassing and intimidating the villagers further. Scores of residents have been feared killed during a midnight raid in Dan-Kade village in Unashi district under the Zuru chiefdom of Kebbi State, SaharaReporters has reported. The Katsina State Police Command on Monday revealed that its operatives successfully repelled terrorists’ attack at Badole village, in the Kurfi Local Government Area of the state over the weekend. Isah added that “many terrorists” were killed in the process while all the rustled animals were recovered. The statement read in part, “On January,15,2022, at about 01.20 a.m, bandits in their numbers, attacked Badole village, Kurfi, rustled unspecified number of domestic animals. ” The DPO led a combined team of police and vigilante and blocked their exit route at Yarrunfar Koza village, Kurfi Local Government Area. NATO on Monday inked a deal to bolster its cyber support for Ukraine, after a sweeping hacking attack against Kyiv heightened tensions amid fears that Russia could be plotting an invasion. Ukraine said on Sunday that it had evidence Moscow was behind the attack last week that knocked out government websites — but the Kremlin has denied any involvement. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Friday that experts from NATO and its members were already on the ground, working with Ukraine to tackle the latest cyber attack. Moscow and NATO allies failed to make a breakthrough to ease tensions over Ukraine at high-stakes talks last week. An expert and founder of Zeetin Engineering Limited, Azibaola Robert, has sued for collaboration among Nigerian engineers for the technological advancement of the country. Robert made the call in Abuja when he hosted the executive of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, led by its President, Elizabeth Eterigho. The lifeless body of a yet-to-be-identified young man has been recovered from a pathway in Essi Layout, in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State. Witnesses said the deceased was a victim of suspected cult violence in the locality. PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim was found dead on Saturday and was suspected to have been killed overnight. According to sources, he was discovered in a pool of blood with machete cuts on his forehead and arms.
