He explained that on January 4, 2022, around 2am, police detectives acted on an intelligence report and arrested Baba in connection with the case. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday grilled socialite, Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, for his alleged link to the illegal narcotic business, The PUNCH has learnt. Impeccable sources told our correspondent that suspicious payments were made into Cubana’s account by three convicted drug dealers from Malaysia, Nigeria and India. “Obi Cubana arrived at the NDLEA office around 9am and responded to questions for some hours before he was granted bail at 2pm. Some convicted drug dealers paid funds into his account. The socialite was allowed to go home in order to get some documents which would be presented to the NDLEA.

Fifty-Five journalists and media workers were killed around the world in 2021, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has reported. “Once again in 2021, far too many journalists paid the ultimate price to bring truth to light. The UNESCO Observatory of Killed Journalists collected 55 journalist killings in 2021. Journalists worldwide also continue to be subject to high rates of imprisonment, physical attack, intimidation and harassment, including when covering protests. IFJ Secretary-General Anthony Bellanger reiterated the organisation’s support for a United Nations convention for the protection of journalists to “ensure accountability for journalists’ killings”.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has shortlisted 5,000 successful candidates for employment into the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps out of the 1,477,042 candidates that applied in the 2019 recruitment exercise. The Secretary of the board, Mrs Aisha Rufai, who disclosed this at the Civil Defence headquarters in Abuja, on Thursday, directed all prospective applicants to check the application portal, http://cdfipb.careers from January 17, 2022. She, however, noted that the portal wouldn’t open to candidates who were not shortlisted, adding that the documentation exercise would commence from January 31. “Applicants should check for their names, documentation location, guidelines for documentation exercise and print out their invitation slip without which they will not be allowed to participate in the exercise,” she said. “Out of 113,105 candidates shortlisted, 53,116 sat for the CBT in December 2020 across the country and 6,500 were shortlisted for further screening,” he said.

Laboratory experiments recreated conditions in the stomach with bread digested in the presence of black tea, green tea, coffee, wine, vinegar and lemon juice. The third group of participants was given 30 grammes of lemon juice followed by 200 grammes of cooked rice. They all had their blood sugar levels measured at zero, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after consumption.

The gentlemen have been warming up; they have been rehearsing; they have been looking at themselves in the mirror. The latter went on to state that it was money from the North that was used to develop the oil! And it is saying the obvious to state that quite a great many such relationships, marriages and unions are successful. THE Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has told a Coroners Inquest inquiring into the November 1 collapse of the 21-storey building at Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos that the construction of the three high-rise blocks began months before provisional approval was granted. He withdrew his services via a letter dated February 20, 2020, over disputes on how the project was structurally executed. According to Olawale’s statement on oath, Osibona showed his team a copy of the provisional approval from the Lagos State government and ordered them to commence construction on the site. Disputing Olawale’s claims, Odugbemi said that LASBCA never granted Osibona a provisional planning permit when the team moved to the site to commence construction in January 2019, adding that LASBCA granted provisional approval in April 2019. “Will you be surprised if evidence is provided to you right now that work had started before the provisional planning approval was granted in April 2019?” Odugbemi asked.

Social media giant Twitter has agreed to pay “applicable tax” and establish a legal entity in Nigeria in the first quarter of 2022, a senior government official said on Wednesday. Twitter will also appoint a “designated country representative to interface with Nigerian authorities” by 2023, Abdullahi said. The platform is also expected to enrol Nigeria in its Partner Support and Law Enforcement Portals. The Law Enforcement Portal provides a channel for the law enforcement agencies to submit a report with a legal justification where it suspects that content violates Nigerian Laws. Nigerian officials defended the suspension saying Twitter was used to promote fake news and for destabilising activities, especially by separatists in the southeast.

The Police Force (NPF) has extended the online registration of its 2021 recruitment into the service for constables to midnight of January 22. Records show that 81,005 applications were received nationwide as of January 7. Of the figure, only 1,404 requests (less than two per cent of the total) came from the five South-East states, with 261 from Lagos. Anambra posted the least figure of 158 applicants. Interested applicants are urged to log on to the NPF recruitment portal, http://www.policerecruitment.gov.ng to register before the expiration of the new deadline.

A 20-year-old man, Moses Oko, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing a 300-level student of the University of Jos, Jennifer Anthony, for suspected ritual purposes. Anthony had been declared missing by friends and fellow students. Her lifeless body was later found at a hotel in Jos, along Zaria Road, on New Year’s Day with some of her body parts, including her eyes, missing. The suspect will be arraigned at the end of investigation.”The victim’s friend, Jessica Dung, told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that Moses was arrested in a psychiatric home in Makurdi, Benue State, adding that his hair was shaved to suggest that he was mentally unstable. The police took him to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Jos.”The police commissioner, Onyeka, also paraded over 30 other suspects for various offences, including kidnapping, robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, among others.
