Two Catholic priests, reverend fathers John Mark Cheitnum, and Donatus Cleopas were, over the weekend, kidnapped by terrorists in Kaduna State. Okolo said: “it is with great pain that we announce to you the kidnapping of two of our priests; Rev. “We solicit for intense prayer for their quick and safe release, we equally wish to call on all and sundry to refrain from taking the laws into their hands. “We will use every legitimate means to ensure their quick and safe release,” the Catholic chancellor said. “May Jesus crucified on the Cross listen to our prayers and hasten the unconditional release of His priests and all other kidnapped persons.”The unfortunate kidnapped of the two priests happened a few weeks after three Catholic priests were abducted in the state.

BREAKING: Osinbajo successfully undergoes leg surgery in Lagos Hospital
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday, successfully underwent a surgical procedure on his femur at the Duchess International Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos. According to a statement released late Saturday by the hospital management and signed by its Medical Director, Dr Adedoyin Dosunmu-Ogunbi, the procedure was performed by a team comprising of six specialist Doctors. The statement is titled ‘Successful medical treatment of the Vice President’. It read, “The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, was admitted to the Duchess International Hospital GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, today on account of a fracture of his right femur (thigh bone), possibly related to a longstanding injury associated with a game of squash. “I have been admitted today at the hospital for a surgical procedure on account of a recurrent pain in the leg possibly sustained from an injury while playing squash,” he wrote.

Osun 2022: Committee for special duties debunks rumour of aide caught with thumb-printed ballot papers
Following the rumour going around in Osun State that a personal assistant to the commissioner for regional integration and special duty, Hon. Lekan Badmus was caught with thumb-printed ballot papers at ward 2 Osogbo local government, the commissioner for special duties has described the claim as untrue. “I am a man of integrity who believes in hard work and not cheap means to success. The claim that I was, by extension, involved in electoral malpractice contradicts the value I stand for. “Members of the public are hereby urged to disregard any claim or accusation of sorts suggesting that I and the people working with me were involved in electoral fraud.”

The Shanghai Institute of International Studies (SIIS), a research organization for international policy studies, has emphasized the need for constant discussion to deepen understanding of the African debt problem. Chen said: “The international community has provided positive support to African countries through many agendas and initiatives. Gregory Graysmith, emerging markets fund manager at M&G Investments, identified the need to prioritize the overall debt situation in African countries. According to him, this could provide a new perspective for China to participate in African development and support African countries in coping with debt challenges. On Thursday, July 14, 2022, a four-week film training by the Africa Movie Academy, AMA, under the Film In A Box project came to an end at the Alimosho local council, Lagos State. The film training, which is a brainchild of Peace Anyiam-Osigwe led AMA, had star actor Keppy Ekpeyong and film director Achor Yusuf training over 200 young Nigerians with aspirations to become part of the Nigerian film industry. I think Alimosho managed to change the facilitators, because we have evolved people who have become what they want to be. Soludo writes Anambra Assembly, seeks N100bn loan
The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has written the state House of Assembly seeking approval for N100 billion loan. The loan facility, according to him, will be for the construction and refurbishment of key infrastructure in the state. The lawmakers, thereafter, passed the state 2022 Revised Appropriation Bill of N169.6bn. While presenting the report, one of the lawmakers representing the Anambra East Constituency, Mr Emeneka, said the revised budget was made up of N108bn capital expenditure and N61.3bn recurrent expenditure. Gunmen kill Adamawa poly lecturer in wife's presence
A polytechnic lecturer, Yohanna Mbudai Bzegu, has been shot dead in Adamawa State, by yet-to-be-identified gunmen. Bzegu, a lecturer with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, was shot dead in the early hours of Thursday at his Bajabure residence, behind Anglican Junior Seminary, a satellite town on the outskirt of Yola, the state capital. The assailants reportedly broke into his house and fired multiple shots into his chest and watched him breathe his last, while his wife looked haplessly. A source close to the family who pleaded anonymity said the attackers, gained entrance into their residence at about 3:00 am. However, while his two teenage sons died instantly, the cleric did not; although his attackers abducted his 13-year-old daughter, who has since regained freedom after an undisclosed sum of money was paid to her abductors as ransom.

Physical punishment: Destructive rods stunt little minds’ potential, produce negative impacts
Corporal punishment is a form of violence against children; it is an adverse childhood experience. Director, Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Dr Tolulope Bella-Awusah, said corporal punishment is something that many people assumed that will not have any negative effect. She stated, “The negative effects of corporal punishment, mostly from the western world include bullying other children, being aggressive in resolving conflicts, living in fear and poor self-esteem. All these behaviours fall under conduct disorder, and can be a consequence of the poor upbringing.”The message sent to children through corporal punishment is one of aggression. A threat to use physical or psychological violence on children is even more than the actual physical punishment.

Police intercept N1.3m Indian hemp in Kano
The operatives of the Kano State Police Command, in their effort to guide against taking hard drugs, have intercepted Indian hemp worth N1.3 million being conveyed into the state from neighbouring Katsina State. He said that the substance suspected to be distributed in Kano was intercepted by the police operatives while on intelligence-led surveillance patrol at Damagiri Village in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State. According to him, the suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled after the police patrol team trailed him on his way to supply the Indian hemp. He noted that “On sighting the presence of the Police, the driver of the Motor Vehicle zoomed off. On sustained follow-up, the driver abandoned the Motor Vehicle and escaped.
