Form of Government
While they are within OUR gates, they must not only be looked after and made comfortable by Nigerian protocol officers. Our Head of State must personally see to it that they are made to feel at home during their stay in Nigeria. Similarly.our own Head of State should, now and again, visit other countries for the purpose of promoting and strengthening our friendship with them. The opportunity for unselfish service to the people should count far more with African political leaders than the title which is attached to a particular public office. We are unhesitatingly of the opinion that the office of Head of State in the Region is otiose and should be abolished.

Nigeria causing vaccine-derived poliovirus spread to neighbouring countries – WHO
This is as the global health body stated that Nigeria had caused international spread of the CVDPV2 to other countries, while giving the official number of confirmed cases as 385 so far. Sunday PUNCH reports that the WHO Independent Africa Regional Certification Commission for Polio Eradication, on August 25, 2020, officially declared Nigeria and the African region free of wild poliovirus. The explosive outbreak of CVDPV2 in Nigeria has caused international spread to neighbouring countries. Baba said, “The vaccine-derived poliovirus has mutated so much and has the capacity of causing paralysis, just like the wild polio, because among the three stereotypes of polio, Type 2 is genetically so unstable and mutates very fast. Most of us knew what the country went through before the wild poliovirus was eradicated.

Rivers lecturer gets three months suspension over ‘sexual harassment’
The Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Port Harcourt said one of its lecturers, Tamunotonye Solomon has been suspended for three months over allegations of sexual harassment of female student. Recall that the lecturer, Solomon and the 200-level female student, Blessing Audu have traded words openly in the media, stating their side of the issue. But the management of the Polytechnic in a statement signed by its Registrar, Chris Woke, expressed annoyance with the development and dissociated itself from the alleged conduct of its staff. “Management has also set up an investigative committee to investigate the allegations. Oil price nears $83 as fears over Omicron ease
Brent crude futures, which traded close to $83 per barrel earlier on Friday, had fully recovered from the end-of-November sell-off over initial omicron fears, with OPEC+ boosting oil output for a seventh consecutive month amid waning fears that the variant would trigger large-scale lockdowns. Although global mobility in the world’s biggest oil consumers fell sharply at the end of the year and first days of 2022, according to Google data, the slump reflected the seasonal holiday period slowdown. But mobility in the world’s third-biggest oil consumer remains above pre-COVID levels which it hit in mid-November, the Google data showed. The global economy returned to 2019 levels in the second quarter of 2021 and rebounded by 5.7 per cent over the year. But some market watchers were cautiously optimistic that demand would continue to recover strongly, potentially fueling higher prices if oil supplies were unable to keep up.

Ethiopia will make any sacrifices to this end,” the government communications service said in a statement late Friday announcing the amnesty. However, in another statement on Saturday he again lashed out at “foreign and internal enemies” and described the TPLF as “snakes”. It was not immediately known if the TPLF stalwarts granted amnesty — including one of its founders Sibhat Nega and former Tigray president Abay Woldu — had been released by Saturday.

Three killed, houses burnt as herdsmen sack Ondo community
No fewer than three persons were reportedly killed when gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded Molege community in the Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State on Thursday. The gunmen allegedly attacked the community following the refusal of the residents to allow the herdsmen to graze on their farms. After the attack, a source narrated that the herdsmen razed the buildings in the community overnight while the villagers fled. The source said, “The herdsmen in their large number attacked the community in the evening and killed three people. The Commander of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the herdsmen attacked his men while on patrol in the community.

Many young women fear Covid vaccines may interact with their Botox or fillers, doctors say
Thousands of women may not have got their Covid vaccine because they fear it will interact with their Botox, experts say. Some cosmetic clinics already urge anyone interested in getting Botox or dermal fillers to wait until four weeks after their jab. However, experts argue the perception of the risk, estimated to occur one in 5,000 cases, could be putting some women off getting a Covid booster. Currently, the NHS and UK Governments do not provide any information about the Botox and fillers interacting with Covid jabs. Professor John Drury, an expert in social psychology from the University of Sussex, told MailOnline officials should address the Botox fears to ensure people are not left with doubts over the jab.
