Kwara suspends pension payment to 6,437 retirees
Kwara State government has temporarily suspended the payment of monthly pensions to 6,437 retired workers in the state with effect from July 2022, following their inability to complete verification exercises organised for pensioners in the state. The government, in a press statement titled “Kwara State Government Receives Interim Report on Pensioners’ Verification”, issued in Ilorin on Saturday said that the retirees failed to submit their documents to a screening committee constituted for the exercise. It said, “The Kwara State Government has received an interim report on the verification exercise on the State Pensioners. “The State Government contracted a financial consortium in December last year to carry out a verification exercise on the State Pensioners as a result of the precarious challenges inhibiting the smooth payment of pensioners’ entitlement. “Consequently, the government has directed the Office of the State Accountant General to suspend forthwith, payment to the affected Pensioners effective from this month (July ) until they are cleared.

NDLEA busts hemp, codeine joint in Kano, arrests 51 suspects
Alhaji Abubakar Ahmad Idris, Commandant of the NDLEA in Kano disclosed that the operatives of the agency conducted the raid on the Restaurant, following a public outcry and complaints it received from residents of the area. ”During the raid, we’re able to arrest 51 suspects which include: 34 males, 17 females. He noted that the NDLEA operatives as leading stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse moved to the vicinity to curtail the illicit activities taking place in the acclaimed restaurant. He said during the raid, the Operatives recovered drug substances which include: codeine syrup bottles, Indian hemp, and shisha instruments used in concealing Illicit drugs. He also added that the “NDLEA will not spare any person caught to be culprit” while the suspect will be charged to court as soon as the investigation was completed.

I became deaf after receiving over 30 injections – Gombe graduate
I’m a 27-year-old Political Science graduate at Gombe State University, with a diploma in Information and Communications Technology. She said I was given more than 30 injections and I can’t remember the number of drips I received. Did you ever imagine what could have happened if there were no such corps members with such knowledge? They claimed their pastors encouraged them to learn it from the deaf and help interpret to the deaf worshippers in their churches. The NYSC director-general needs to direct all state coordinators to hire at least two sign language interpreters to accommodate deaf corps members posted to their states.

Commonwealth Games: Bayelsa govt sets Gold target for Nigerian athletes
The Bayelsa State government has charged the Nigerian Wrestling Federation (NWF) to bring home at least six gold medals from the forthcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
