MANILA, Philippines — The “data breach” suffered by election system provider Smartmatic was actually part of a scam hatched by hackers to con unscrupulous politicians into believing they could manipulate the elections. Mancao said they peddled their scam by presenting old voters’ data that Smartmatic used to prepare for the elections and was stored in a laptop computer that was supposedly stolen by former Smartmatic employee Ricardo Argana. Argana, who initially surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation but was eventually released, was allegedly paid P300,000 by Limpiado, the scam’s alleged mastermind, for the Smartmatic data. The data appeared current because they included voters’ personal details, their precincts and voting history, but actually had nothing to do with the May 9 elections, Mancao said. MANILA, Philippines — Medical experts welcomed the final version of the vape bill, saying this will strictly regulate e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, protect the youth and save smokers’ lives. Dr. Dante Dator, one of the country’s top urologists, said the vape bill aims to prevent the youth from using vape devices. “Without the vape bill, our worst fears that minors will use vape products will become a reality. “I strongly support the vape bill because it has many provisions that are dedicated in protecting the youth and making sure this age group doesn’t use vape products,” he said. “Without the vape bill, flavored and substandard e-cigarettes as well those high-nicotine vape products will continue to flourish because there is no law penalizing violators thereof,” he said.

Leadership should be more human-centric, lest we lose the "human" in human resources management. New leadership imperativeAs the workplace continues to change, a new type of leadership should emerge. In 2001, Susan Scott's brand of "Fierce Leadership" tells leaders what to look for by using the "squid eye" technique, lest they follow the worst "best practices." During these difficult times, employees want to feel the presence of no-nonsense but warm, compassionate and human-centric leaders. Government and the private sector leaders should look into this form of safety net, as a resilience measure now and in the future.

The Philippines has pulled the plug on all domestic screenings of a Hollywood film called "Uncharted", over a scene showing a disputed map of the South China Sea. (File)The Philippines has pulled the plug on all domestic screenings of a Hollywood film called "Uncharted", over a scene showing a disputed map of the South China Sea, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday. The move comes shortly after Vietnam, another claimant in the South China Sea, also banned the Sony Pictures action movie, which stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. A two-second frame in the movie contains an image of the so-called nine-dash line, which marks China's claims in the South China Sea, a strategic waterway. In 2019, the Philippines' foreign ministry requested DreamWorks to shut down cinema screenings of animated film "Abominable" after a scene showed the same Chinese nine-dash line.
