Somalia asks Ethiopian troops to leave before December 2024 – The North Africa Post
Somali authorities said Ethiopian troops, stationed in the country as part of an African Union peacekeeping mission, should leave the country before December 2024. The decision came as the mission’s mandate expires in a context of worsening ties between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa. Ethiopian forces will not be part of an African Union force that will stay in the country to protect key installations for one year starting January 2025, Somali National Security Adviser Hussein Sheikh-Ali told the media. Somalia opposed the deal and denounced it as a violation of its sovereignty and an act of aggression by Ethiopia. Kenya offered to mediate in the conflict between the two neighbors.

Morocco’s Flag Carrier to re-open Casablanca-Sao Paulo direct air link on Dec. 7 – The North Africa Post
Morocco’s carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) announced that it will re-open the Casablanca- Sao Paulo direct air link starting from December 7, 2024 with three weekly flights. The announcement was made while Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Mauro Vieira was visiting Rabat. Flights from Casablanca to Brazilian Sao Paulo will take place on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while return flights will take off from Sao Paulo on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, RAM said in a press release. “We are very happy to re-launch the direct Casablanca-Sao Paulo air route, suspended since the health crisis. Brazilians, known for being football lovers, will be able to travel easily and comfortably with Royal Air Maroc, between Sao Paulo and the three countries organizing the World Cup, via the airline’s hub in Casablanca.

New heatwave, more dust on its way next week
Temperatures are set to soar again next week across the country with meteorologists even forecasting up to 43-44 degrees Celsius in heat-sensitive plains. According to the National Meteorological Service (EMY), temperatures will begin to climb at the weekend between 34C and 36C in mainland areas, with a further rise from Tuesday. The service’s forecast was also confirmed by meteorologist Yiannis Kallianos, who warned, as quoted by Naftemboriki news site, that a heat wave will arrive on Tuesday with temperatures rising to very high levels on Wednesday – above 43 in some areasAt the same time, dust from the Sahara is also expected to make a comeback on Tuesday and Wednesday, especially on the Greek mainland and the Ionian islands. The intense heatwave, whose duration still remains unknown, originates from Algeria, Tunisia and Libya in North Africa.

North Korea resumes flying balloons toward South, Seoul says
North Korea resumed flying balloons on Saturday in a likely attempt to drop trash on South Korea again, South Korea's military said, two days after Seoul activists floated their own balloons to scatter propaganda leaflets in the North. In response, South Korea suspended a tension-easing agreement with North Korea to restore front-line military activities. It wasn't immediately known if any of the North Korean balloons had landed on South Korean territory across the rivals' tense border. South Korean officials called the North Korean trash balloon launches and other recent provocations "absurd, irrational" and vowed strong retaliation. Experts say North Korea's balloon campaign is also meant to cause a divide in South Korea over its conservative government's tough approach on North Korea.

South Korea to blast loudspeaker broadcasts after North's trash balloons
SEOUL (Reuters) -- South Korea resumed loudspeaker broadcasts directed at North Korea on Sunday, its military said, following through on a warning demanding Pyongyang stop sending balloons carrying trash into the South. South Korea had warned the North it would take retaliatory measures which could include propaganda broadcasts from huge loudspeakers set up at the border. The broadcasts were made Sunday afternoon and whether more will follow depends on how North Korea responds, South Korea's military said. South Korea's broadcasts include world news and information about democratic and capitalist society with a mix of popular K-pop music. The sound is believed to travel more than 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) into North Korea.

Seoul to resume loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts into North Korea
South Korea announced Sunday that it would resume loudspeaker propaganda campaigns against the North after Pyongyang sent a fresh barrage of trash-filled balloons across the border. Seoul announced that propaganda broadcasts would resume on June 9, 2024, in response to North Korea's trash balloons. "Although the measures we are taking may be difficult for the North Korean regime to endure, they will deliver messages of light and hope to the North Korean military and citizens," it said. "North Korea is making another low-class provocation with trash balloons against our civilian areas," Seoul mayor Oh Se-hoon wrote in a Facebook post. "With the resuming of the speakers, North Korea will not stay put.
