MONROVIA – The Young Political Leadership School Africa will host its seventh cohort in Monrovia, Liberia bringing a diverse group of 100 emerging leaders (51% women and 49% men) from across the ECOWAS region and Cameroon on next week Monday to Friday, 23rd – 27th November 2020. They are expected to challenge, inspire, motivate, and spark new insights for participants to lead in their respective countries while adhering to democratic principles, ideas, and values for improved governance in their respective countries. After the one week program, participants will engage in a three months practicum required, they are going to organize community events, engage with political leaders, democratic activists, organize debates on national issues and get involved in community service programs. The YPLS Africa was established in April 2016 and has built the capacity of 530 young political leaders from across Africa. Alumni are doing amazing work within their respective countries, leading change in their communities and transforming lives, advancing electoral democracy, inclusive governance and holding elected leaders accountable for their actions.

MONROVIA – The Supreme Court of Liberia on Wednesday, November 18, in a unanimous opinion, granted the Petition for a Writ of Prohibition against the holding of the Referendum filed by the CPP. It could be recalled that consistent with Article 91 of the Constitution, the Legislature adopted a Joint Resolution, proposing a Constitutional Referendum to amend eight (8) Articles of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia. If for instance, a voter votes “YES” to ballot Measure Number 3, his “YES” vote automatically translates into an approval of all the proposed amendments that have been collapsed under ballot Measure Number 3. If on the other hand, he votes “No”, it automatically translates into a rejection of all the proposed amendments that have been collapsed under ballot Measure Number 3. The Supreme Court went further to state that “to the mind of this Court, this is a violation of the letters and intent of the Constitution and the citizens’ rights of choice.

Congo Town – The World Hope International (WHI), a humanitarian organization has broken ground for the construction of several Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in the Peace Island Community in Congo Town, Monrovia. The project is being undertaken by World Hope International through the Liberia Country Program in partnership with Habitat for Humanity International, Cities Alliance and the Government of Liberia. According to Mr. Kollie, assessment by World Hope International shoe that access to WASH facilities was at a low scale in the peace Island Community. Wie expressed delight that the people of Peace Island are about to benefit from such initiative. The Peace Island Community which came into existence during the tenure of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is reportedly lacking behind in development in every aspect.

The Liberian Senate wishes to state unequivocally that it would have reacted by now to the verdict of the ECOWAS Court in the JA’NEH Impeachment Case. Kabineh Ja’neh was conducted in a very fair and transparent manner as prescribed by the 1986 Constitution of Liberia, the relevant laws of our country and the Standing Rules of the Liberian Senate. Therefore, section 24 of the Senate Rules was revised to make Senate Rule 63 coherent with the Constitution of Liberia. The entire impeachment trial process was transparent, legally and constitutionally-sound and totally void of inducements, coercion, political collaboration, vengeance, and politicking the Statement concludes. The Liberian Senate in no way violated the rights, in any form, of Cllr Kabineh Ja’neh prior to, during and after his impeachment trial.
