“History of the Episcopal Church of Liberia Since 1980 – A Sequel,” is a captivating story of Christian witness and the role of the Church in Liberia. The volume is basically a window to the world relative to the establishment and existence of the Episcopal Church of Liberia (ECL), the ECL’s Christian witness, as well as the role of the Christian Church in the foundation and existence of Liberia from the perspective of the Episcopal Church. Well-reflected are the issues facing the ECL following the formal severance of ecclesiastical ties with The Episcopal Church (TEC), as the mother church in America is known. According to The Archives of the Episcopal Church, though the Epscopal Church’s first official mission was established in Liberia in 1836, there was a presence of Episcopal missionaries as early as 1822. History of the Episcopal Church of Liberia Since 1980: A Sequel, is a highly recommended read for students of history, and a must-read, especially for Episcopalians or Anglicans.

But this is far from the truth; Mr. Alexander Cummings’ “soft power” approach may be the way forward for unity in Liberia and antidote for the change we want. Soft power approach to governance is void of coercion and overt breach of the law. In today’s contemporary global politics soft power approach is the most effective and efficient concept, in part because of its endurance and sustainability. Furthermore, unlike Mr. Urey, Mr. Boakai, Mr. Dillon, and Mrs. Kanga-Lawrence; Mr. Alexander B Cummings’ executive performance has been tested and proven in higher places in corporate America. Contrary to pundit’s description of executive roles as nothing more than boardroom manager, a chief executive is versatile in many skills.

MONROVIA – the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, Inc. has discredited media reports alleging that one of its auxiliaries – Liberia Baptist Missionary Educational (LBMEC) – is claiming ownership of the four lots of land on which President George Weah’s Jamaica Resort is situated. MONROVIA – Representative J. Fonati Koffa (CDC-District #2 Grand Kru County) is the current chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary who is vying to become the next Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives replacing out going Deputy Speaker Prince Moye. His critics believe that electing him as the next Deputy Speaker will create a one-party system of governance and a one-sided regional government. Koffa is not bothered because, according to him, criticisms made against his bid for the Deputy Speakership are genuine but being a ruling party Deputy Speaker is not unprecedented. Most recently, the President, the President, Speaker and Pro-Temp were from the Western region with the Vice President from the north. We are not rivals, obviously there is nothing you can do as Deputy Speaker without the confidence of the Speaker.

According to him, the economic policies being implored by Minister Tweah and others are only intended to impress the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and other international partners. “The Samuel Tweah’s economic policies are leading us nowhere; it cannot translate to bread and butter on the table of Liberians. Government of Liberia economic policies appears more likely to impress the IMF, World Bank and international community than to transform the lives of ordinary Liberians”. It is not the IMF or the World Bank that are eating here every day or having difficulties in sending their children to school; so we should go beyond the World Bank and IMF politics. The IMF and World Bank will make the projections, but we have to work on them.
