Monrovia – The U.S. Embassy in Liberia is proud to support Liberia’s response to the COVID- 19 pandemic. As a part of our assistance to Liberia’s civilian security agencies and Ministry of Justice, the U.S. State Department Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) provided personal protective equipment (PPE), including locally-procured N-95 and other disposable face masks, full-body disposable personal protective suits, alcohol-based sanitizing gel, and disposable medical-grade rubber gloves to the Liberian Joint Security Task Force. This support will protect security officials who engage with the public and are assigned to quarantine centers and hospitals as they respond to the COVID-19 health emergency that has spread globally. INL also donated 40 megaphones, protective covers, and spare batteries to the Liberia National Police, the Liberia Immigration Service, the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Liberia National Fire Service to support their efforts to inform citizens about the health risks of COVID-19 and best practices to stay safe, and to strengthen the ability of security agencies to communicate with the public. The PPE and communications items, which are valued at $10,000, were procured through INL’s implementing partner Integrated Justice Systems International (IJSI).

MONROVIA – Amid the COVID19 pandemic devastation, the Liberian community in Sweden have embarked on a fundraising effort to donate rice to Liberian nurses at three of Liberia’s major hospitals. The Liberian Swedish Association, LSA, is a non-profit Liberian community-based organization in Sweden. It is the umbrella organization for Liberians residing in Sweden, children born of Liberian parents, and Swedes that have once lived or work in Liberia – that are considered friends, and supporters of Liberia. The total of 150 bags of rice was distributed among these hospitals, with each receiving 50 bags. Overall, a little under $3,000 USD was spent for the initiative, in term of cost of rice, logistics, and other miscellaneous expenses.

The reports said, while in detention, Officer Beh allegedly started raining insults on Wulue, calling her a prostitute and a street girl. ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh County – The Civil Society Group in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County has accused an officer of the Liberia National Police (LNP) identified as Lexington Beh of ‘unmercifully’ beating a female in detention at the police station in Zwedru. According to reports, the survivor, Patience Wulue, 28 was arrested on June 20, 2020 and detained by officer Beh on the orders of the Police Commander of Grand Gedeh County. The reports said, while in detention, Beh allegedly started raining insults on Wulue, calling her a prostitute and a street girl.
