Armed Forces of Liberia Discharges Two Soldiers
MONROVIA – The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has dishonorably discharged SSG Keita Musa and Cpl Jugbe Peter from the AFL in line with Chapter 7, Section 7.7 (j) of the New National Defense Act of August 2008. Upon receiving this information, the AFL, as a force for good, through its Military Police Investigation Team immediately launched an investigation into the matter. The investigative report from the Military Police Investigation Team established that SSG Keita Musa and Cpl Jugbe Peter were involved in the assault, cruelty and maltreatment of Dakai Woods in Gbarnga City, Bong County. The report further established that the soldiers’ actions violated the following Articles of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ):Article 92 (failure to obey lawful order or regulation). Article 128 (assault) Article 93 (cruelty and maltreatment)Their actions contradict the principle of building a discipline military and a Force for Good.

“Misleading, Unprofessional Press Statement of National Public Health Institute of Liberia against Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan” – Says Diaspora COVID-19 Focus Group
Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, M.D. A recent press statement of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia and its Acting Director Dr. Mosoka Fallah, attributed to Dr. Nyan what it described as an “assertion” about Liberia receiving COVID-19 testing kits from the US CDC. The NPHIL then stated that it received kits from the WHO, instead. Among other preventive measures, the medical Focus Group was evaluating the sources and quality of coronarvirus testing kits probably in use in African countries when the faulty US CDC COVID-19 test came to its attention. In the last several weeks the US CDC has come under Congressional fire for its distribution of faulty Coronavirus testing kits which have produced “inconclusive results” in several state labs and led to delay in testing.

Court to Render Judgment in Murder Trial of Journalist Tyron Brown on March 13
Jonathan Williams, the alleged murderer of Journalist Tyron BrownTubmanburg, Bomi County – The two-year murder trial of late Journalist Tyron Brown may come to an end on Friday, March 13, when the judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit Court, in Tubmanburg, Bomi County hands down ruling. He insisted that they proved in their arguments that Defendant Williams did willfully murder Journalist Brown. The two defense counsels further stated in their arguments that Journalist Brown did enter the fenced Duport Road residence of the Defendant around 11p.m. In his testimony before the court, Defendant Williams had admitted stabbing the defendant at his home while in the tussle during the incident but had thought that Brown had just been wounded. Journalist Tyron Brown, a reporter at the Super FM, was discovered dead on April 18, 2018 in the Duport Road Community.

Liberia: Raw Water Pipeline Construction More Than 50% Complete
MONROVIA – The construction of the raw water pipeline for the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) is more than 50 percent complete and on schedule to be completed in September 2020. The US$18 million pipeline will draw water from the dam of the Mt. The current location of LWSC’s intake pipe results in poor water quality and salty water during the dry season when the St. Paul River level is low, as water from the Atlantic Ocean washes back into the river. Instead of retrieving water from downstream and closer to the ocean, the pipeline will draw water from the reservoir upstream. Funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation for the Government of Liberia, the raw water pipeline is part of the Energy project under the compact, which is committed to reducing poverty in Liberia by promoting economic growth and inclusion.

Liberia: CARI Comptroller on The Run after Reportedly Stealing US$50k
On Friday, March 6, 2020, social media lit up about a man identified as Amara Enson Joe, the Comptroller of CARI, who reportedly withdrew the money from the institution’s account. Bong’s police chief, Frederick Nappy explained that the police had received the complaint from CARI and will launch a man-hunt for Amara. “We have received a report from the administration of CARI and we will launch an investigation into the matter,” he said. CARI’s acting officer-in-charge, Madam Paulette Findley confirmed the development, but could not give further detail on the matter. Amara is said to be a holder of an MBA in Finance and Accounting awarded by Cuttington University Graduate School in 2019.

Liberia: Legal Aid Clinic to be established at Law School
Monrovia – The Joint UNDP/OHCHR Rule of Law Programme is partnering with the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, to establish a Legal Aid Clinic in terms of programme objectives. The Clinic, when established, will enable law students to learn practical legal skills while providing legal aid services to indigent persons. A presentation was made to the Administration and students of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law recently on the campus. Dr. Cole expressed delight over the partnership with the Law School, noting that it’s an opportunity to leverage resources for critical outcomes. The Dean of the Louis Arthur Grimes School of law urged students to own the process, which takes into consideration a mix of knowledge and skills set.

According to the Executive Mansion, Mr. Brown would be investigated by the appropriate authorities and, if found guilty, would be prosecuted under the full weight of the law. President Weah also suspended all petroleum importers licenses which are now subjected to performance-based review covering the period January 2017 to January 2020. Re-activation of licenses will be done on a case-by-case basis, and those that do not meet performance and capacity requirements satisfactory to the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company will be subject to revocation.

Liberia: No Money to Fuel House of Representatives’ Staff Buses?
According to what we are hearing, gas provided for the buses was misused by people in charge,” an ordinary worker at the legislature told this newspaper.
