Manchester United on Tuesday reopened their Carrington training ground following a coronavirus outbreak that forced the postponement of two Premier League matches. United closed Carrington for an initial 24 hours eight days ago and their matches at Brentford and at home against Brighton were subsequently called off. “Manchester United’s players have started a return to training at Carrington on a staggered basis,” the club said in a statement. “The complex was closed for first-team operations last week due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the club but opened again (on Tuesday) morning. United are currently sixth in the Premier League table having played two games fewer than most of the teams above them.

One of Nigeria’s renowned travel agencies, Wakanow Limited, has apologised to the inspector-general of police concerning a “mistake” in an advert stating that the company was to offer mobile police (MOPOL) services. In the letter which was also directed to the Nigeria Police Force,(NPF) the company said it “sincerely regrets the inconveniences and embarrassment” the mistake may have caused the “reputable” Nigerian Police Force. A flyer published 7th December 2021 indicated that the travel agency was going to make the provision of a Mobile Police Force alongside an advert was later brought down by the company the following day, according to the letter. “Our attention was brought to a mistake on the publication which was orchestrated by the printers’ devil who misinterpreted the narrative of “well trained and equipped escort personnel” as “Mobile Police Officers (MOPOL)” and introduced the same in the flyer, which was not the intention contemplated by us”, the letter reads in part. It added that “The said flyer was published in the afternoon of Tuesday 7th December 2021 and as soon as the attention of our management was drawn to the mistake, we immediately took down the flyer which was done in the afternoon of Wednesday 8th December 2021.”Wakanow stated clearly that the company does “not provide and have never provided such a service.”The Company assured that an error of such nature will not occur “again in the future.”

VICE Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Professor Eyitayo Ogunbodede, on Monday, escaped being lynched in Ife community. One of the security men of the institution was hacked with a machete by the hoodlums who shot sporadically into the air to scare the university community members. “We will try as much as possible to continue to maintain peace because the university cannot continue to exist without the community. ‘You can see that we are in a very serious situation as far as OAU land is concerned. Our correspondent learnt that the remains of Uchechi, aka Oyigbo, were discovered by her neighbours on Sunday. A suspected lover of the deceased, who was said to be living with her, was alleged to have fled with her two-year-old daughter. Tope was arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for attempting to kill her guardian, Mrs. Esther Bada by poisoning her food. “While there, she made a confessional statement that she actually added rat poison substance to the victim’s food,” the PPRO said. Some armed hoodlums on Monday attacked vehicles conveying principal officers of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and newsmen going on inspection of hostel accommodation built by the university at Parakin Area, Ile-Ife. The attackers carrying axe, charms, machetes, and guns had blocked Ife/Ede road and prevented the vehicles from accessing the hostels. While the melee lasted, gunshots were heard as the hoodlums wielding dangerous weapons hit the vehicles and prevented the team from proceeding. Ogunbodede said the hostel accommodation that had been completed but could not be occupied by students owning to security concerns. They are not interested in ceding an inch of the university land to anybody.
