The Nigerian Army has narrated what transpired between Christian Ehima, a 24-year-old undergraduate of Computer Science in the University of Benin; and soldiers at the Railway Checkpoint in Igbanke, Edo State. Nwachukwu also released video and audio evidence of the encounter between Christian, his mother and the soldiers. Mercy, an Assistant Superintendent of Police with the Delta State Police Command, had said that her son was tortured to death by the soldiers at the checkpoint. Nwachukwu also sent our correspondent audio and video recordings of what transpired between the soldiers, the victim and his mother. In the video, Christian was seen rolling on the red-coloured road, uttering incoherent words while his mother asked him what happened.

Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service attached to the Tin Can Island Command on Friday intercepted a container loaded with arms and ammunition, The PUNCH has learnt. The owner of the container reportedly said the consignment contained electronics but the suspicious Customs officials, upon close examination of the cartons, discovered that they were filled with guns. The Public Relations Officer of the Tin Can Customs Command, Uche Ejesieme, confirmed the discovery to The PUNCH on Saturday. “We quickly sealed it up and intimated the terminal operators to quickly move the container to our enforcement unit where we hope to conduct 100 per cent examination by Monday morning. By the time we conduct comprehensive information, we will be able to avail the media with the circumstances and possibly the suspects.

In the short time since the emergence of Omicron, the latest SARS-CoV-2 variant, many questions have arisen. Is it more transmissible, how bad are the symptoms, and most importantly, will the vaccines protect against it? Until more data are available, there are no firm answers, but many are optimistic that vaccines offer at least some protection. The rapid development of vaccines gave hope that the COVID-19 pandemic might soon be under control. These findings add to concerns that the COVID-19 vaccines authorized in most countries may not be effective against the Omicron variant.

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has chosen silence as the leader of pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo; and former Interim APC National Chairman, Bisi Akande trade words over the sponsorship of Abebanjo’s Lekki house. Akande in his 559-page autobiography titled ‘My Participations’, launched in Lagos on December 9, 2021, had claimed that the 93-year-old Afenifere leader pestered Tinubu to build him (Adebanjo) a house in Lekki, where he now resides. Akande on Page 415 alleged, “One day, Sir Olaniwun (Ajayi) was launching a book at Muson Centre, Lagos. After the book presentation, Tinubu said I should not go and that he would like to see me.
