A non-Governmental organisation, the Coalition for Biodiversity Conservationists of Nigeria (CBCN), has called for concerted efforts to save the world’s fast-depleting biodiversity. The unintentional transport of plants and animals to new regions is threatening the world’s ecosystems’ biodiversity, structure and function. The threats posed to biodiversity by invasive species are considered second only to habitat loss. Mwansat, who spoke on ‘Escalating Anthropogens on Biodiversity Conservation: Past, present, and future’ said human activities are eroding biodiversity, adding that some species are extinct already, and up to one million other species are threatened with extinction. Others are Dr Clement Ebin, Chairman, CBCN Board of Trustees and Prof. Ahmad Sanda of Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto state.

There are communities in the Niger Delta that would compete to have the dubious notoriety of being the oil spill capital of the world due to the regularity of oil spill incidents they experience. Ikarama community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State is one such community. Naidoo went on to reference the ecocide in Ikarama in his excellent book, Change: Organising Tomorrow Today. And that is why I am returning to Ikarama today, eight years after. He was at a field monitoring visit and community environmental monitoring training at Ikarama, Bayelsa Stare, Nigeria on 16 June 2022.

Since then I have been an active politician till today; I was a political adviser to the then Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. I later became the pioneer National Auditor of Action Congress and also served as Deputy National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party. How did you emerge as the senatorial candidate of the Yobe North senatorial district of the APC? Who do you think Tinubu as President would have preferred to be in the Senate between you and Lawan? How can he allow his name to be submitted to INEC when he knew that he didn’t participate in the senatorial primary?

This Emi l’okan singsong will appear to fall flat in the face of the popular desire to re-affirm the culture of the people undeniably anchored on cherished values. Tinubu has conveniently substituted igbo l’okan for a personal self-seeking Emi ‘lokan bogey. Perhaps we must all begin to cultivate a sense of entitlement regarding issues or policies that are incidents of our citizenship. An Emi l’okan bogey has appeared on the horizon threatening an orderly panoply and frightening men of moderate means out of the way or out of contention. Igbo l’okan as a deep-seated conviction for order and fairness has been cavalierly substituted for Emi l’okan without compunction.

The smartphone took mobility of life and business to a whole new level and created a convergence of industries into this powerful device,” he added. Oyeyemi attributed such disruption to the fact that technologies have no regard for extant rules of engagement or the old factors of competitive advantage. “They are barbarians who have pulled down old structures and systems and created a whole new frame for competitiveness beyond industries,” he stated. The institute has elected Prof. Michael Kupolati and Mrs Ebisan Onyema, as its first and second vice-presidents, respectively. South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana is confident that Bayana Bayana will dethrone Nigeria at the forthcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations next month, Sunday PUNCH reports. The 12th WAFCON will hold from July 2 to 23 in Morocco with 12 teams competing for the title. From five meetings at the WAFCON tournament, the Falcons have won three encounters while the Bayana Bayana has been on the losing side twice. Both teams will meet for the sixth time at the 2022 WAFCON championship in Morocco and Kgatlana believes the export of Bayana Bayana talents to Europe in recent years will bridge the gap in their encounter at the Prince Moulay Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat. “I think for a number of years Banyana have struggled because they were not able to export players but things are looking positive now.”Kgatlana further believes winning their opener will boost their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

As the 2023 general elections draw closer, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has warned against the use of provocative, strong and derogatory speeches by politicians and their supporters. The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Tony Ojukwu (SAN), who was speaking at the commemoration of the International Day for Countering Hate Speech at the weekend in Abuja said hate speech promotes prejudice, undermines social cohesion and constitutes a threat to national security. Ojukwu, who lamented that the frequent use of hate speeches in Nigeria, has a devastating effect on sustainable peace, national cohesion, the dignity of the human person, peace and development in the country, said, the 2023 general elections present another opportunity to further deepen democracy and the protection of human rights. In a message to the occasion, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Matthias Schmale, observed that new technologies of communication have amplified the scale and impact of hate speech. He said social media and the internet are presently the most frequent methods for spreading divisive rhetoric and ideologies on a global scale and added that the UN promotes tolerance in countering hate speech, in line with the 2021 UN General Assembly resolution on the promotion of inter-religious and inter-cultural and tolerance in countering hate speech.
