“The cases we have been able to document represent only the tip of the iceberg,” said OMCT Secretary General Gerald Staberock. “Extrajudicial executions of defenceless civilians, often accompanied by horrific torture, are now endemic in Libya as government agents and armed militias unleash indiscriminate violence with impunity,” he said. Staberock stressed that “the world cannot remain complacent and allow these heinous crimes to become the new normal”. Of the total 581 civilians killed, 487 died in the northern, eastern and western parts of the country, while the rest were killed in southern regions. The figure is in addition to the mass graves found in Tarhuna following the killings in April 2019.

Italy's incoming far-right government will most likely attempt to usher in reforms to deny people their right to asylum. Among them is a proposal for a "European military mission, carried out in agreement with the Libyan authorities," to stop people from fleeing towards Italy. The agreement helps finance the Libyan coast guard, including with boats, who then prevent departures in the first place. That means more money and boats for the Libyan coast guard. What is possibly more feasible is Meloni's idea of offshoring the entire asylum process to countries outside the European Union.

The HoR is led by former General Khalifa Haftar, who commands the Libyan National Army (LNA). Egypt has been one of the HoR’s most crucial allies, providing weapons, military support, and safe haven through Libya’s eastern border.

CAIRO - 27 September 2022: Egypt is committed to backing the United Nations' peacekeeping and peace-building role, and actively participating in peacekeeping operations in conflict-hit regions, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said. The two sides discussed the outcome of the high-level meetings of the UNGA 77, and the role the UN is expected to play to ensure that all states adhere to the rules of international law, and to fulfill peoples' aspirations without any discrimination, Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abou Zeid said in a statement. The meeting focused on the economic and political fallout from the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the situation in Libya and the Middle East, the Palestinian cause, and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) dispute, the spokesman noted. Meanwhile, Guterres gave an outline of the UN initiatives and efforts to contain the global food crisis and reform the global economic system to alleviate the growing burdens of current crises on developing nations. It has been more than a decade since Libyan head of the state for 42 years Muammar Gaddafi was toppled in a public uprising. Despite his bravado the last days of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi are a grisly story of defiance, defeat and death. By August, however, Muammar Gaddafi his inner circle disappeared and this exodus was spearheaded by Musa Koussa his foreign minister and long-time associate who surreptitiously arrived in London and was promptly dispatched to Qatar where he was housed under guard. He was suspected to be a double agent working both for Muammar Gaddafi and the West. Muammar Gaddafi’s regime refused to yield to the demands of the protestors and began using force on a large scale to suppress them compelling the UN to declare Libya a no-flying zone.

XR data analytics firm CORTEXR has launched its platform on Tuesday to standardise virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) technologies as well as the Metaverse. The new tool leverages cognitive science and artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor six degrees of freedom (6DoF) behaviours and movements such as attention, immersion, and navigation in virtual spaces. The announcement comes just after three years of research and development (R&D) and beta testing with several global firms, leading to a unified solution for monitoring data analytics for the Metaverse. Gaming engine plugins would gather sensor data from numerous devices and headsets and analyse spatial data in real-time via the cloud, with measurements recorded and viewed in bespoke dashboards. Eye, gaze, and hand-tracking were also key to learning user behaviours and interactions with immersive content, the survey continued.
