Nigeria are excited after former England youth international Ashleigh Plumptre got approval to switch her allegiance to the Super Falcons. The 23-year-old defender, who plays for Women’s Super League side Leicester City, is eligible to represent the African women’s football powerhouse because of her father’s Nigerian heritage. “We are happy to receive Ashleigh’s official clearance from FIFA,” NFF director of communications Ademola Olajire told BBC Sport Africa. “Ashleigh personally approached the English FA directly to get the required international clearance from that end. “Her professionalism and unflinching desire to play for Nigeria is honestly heart-warming.

Many have succeeded in life because they said no to poverty through tireless struggles, having sleepless nights and standing against their unending challenges. The level of poverty in the world has reduced but this is not the case in Nigeria where the rich continues to grow richer while the poor are dwelling in perpetual poverty. Only a few care to help those in need unlike in the past where people sponsor the education, healthcare and help to nurture their neighbour’s children alongside their own. I advise government at all levels to wake up from slumber and embrace their responsibilities of protecting lives and properties of the people. Poverty must be eradicated; a man that can fend for himself and meet his needs is difficult to be influenced into crime.

After overcoming fears of postponement because of the Covid pandemic, the Africa Cup of Nations now faces its next big worry: security. Security forces in the west are on high alert after armed groups sent threatening messages to teams in Group F, gathering Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania and Gambia. That sent a very powerful message.”He added, “The government has stationed heavily armed soldiers at nearly all the crossroads in Buea and Limbe. Separatist militants are not the only spectre haunting Cameroon. The country’s Far North region, the tongue of land that touches on the troubled Lake Chad region, has in the past suffered cross-border raids by jihadists from neighbouring Nigeria.

Averaging 4,500 megawatts in the past eight years, Nigerians looking forward to improved electricity supply may continue to wait as inherent challenges may stall power generation in the current. While Nigeria had introduced a Service Based Tariff late 2020 on the promise that electricity supply would improve, the prevailing situation created a worse experience for consumers. It was also gathered that the prevailing challenges have led Nigeria Gas Company (NGC) to issue a notice to manage the situation to avoid complete collapse of the grid. With huge debt and equity servicing challenges, operation and maintenance barriers, dearth of new investments, poor credit rating and poor business viability image to investors, the dismal outlook of the power sector may not change in 2022. For the elusive state of the sector to change, especially in the areas of electricity generation, evaluation of privatization exercise remained sacrosanct as well as synergy across the market.
