Whether or not such resolutions see the light of fulfillment is a subject for another piece. If there were to be one apt phrase to describe how 2021 was for Nigerians, it would be “The Year Without Resolutions.” That is a double entendre for people’s unanimous decisions not to make new year resolutions or be overly optimistic on what the year would bring. The year without resolutions — 2021. In 2021, there was no significant improvement in the standard of living of Nigerians: no stable electricity supply; no better healthcare, nothing! 2021 was the year without resolutions.

Omicron risk remains 'very high': WHO | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News
The risk posed by the Omicron variant is still “very high”, the World Health Organization said Wednesday, after Covid-19 case numbers shot up by 11 percent globally last week. Omicron is behind rapid virus spikes in several countries, including those where it has already overtaken the previously-dominant Delta variant, the WHO said in its Covid-19 weekly epidemiological update. “The overall risk related to the new variant of concern Omicron remains very high,” the UN health agency said. “This corresponds to just under five million new cases and over 44,000 new deaths,” the Geneva-based organisation said. The highest numbers of new cases were reported from the United States, Britain, France and Italy.

Delta topped Nigeria’s daily COVID-19 chart on Tuesday with 194 out of the 599 cases, the Nigeria Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) has said. The centre the 194 cases were recorded from Dec. 13 to Dec. 27. The agency also said Lagos reported 35 cases on Tuesday while Ondo has 23. It added that Nigeria now has 239,010 COVID-19 cases. It added that a multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre, activated at Level II, continues to coordinate the national response activities.

Why Ethiopia must not fall apart
Apart from being un-colonized by any European power, Ethiopia actually defeated Italy in 1896 at the battle of Adwa. Ethiopia is symbolically the capital of Africa, being host to the secretariat and headquarters of the African Union. The conflict in its Tigray region is an internal problem for which Africa should show concern and encourage amicably and negotiated settlement. An estimated 1500 non-combatants were killed, causing a shock effect throughout Ethiopia because of its exceptional nature. But this defining event and its implications are hardly discussed in the global media or in policy circles.

Crisis: Adeleke’s faction suspends Osun PDP ‘acting chairman’, Wale Ojo
Mr. Wale Ojo, who was recently appointed as acting chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, was on Tuesday suspended by another faction of the party supported by Senator Ademola Adeleke. Ojo was appointed acting chairman after the erstwhile factional chairman, Soji Adagunodo, was elevated to the post of South-West National Vice Chairman of the party. But rising from an executive council meeting of the party, Adeleke’s faction announced the removal of Ojo and barred him from holding party office for one year. Enugu State Broadcasting Service gutted by fire
The Headquarters of the Enugu State Broadcasting Service located at the Independence Layout near Agric Bank Junction was on Tuesday morning gutted by fire. He said that safe for the timely response of the State Fire Service, the entire station would have been gutted by fire. But less than a month a police detachment was deployed to the station, our store with equipment was gutted by fire. Although, he said that the current incident could be attributed to power surge, however, the first incident had remained a puzzle. But this one that happened today can be attributed to a power surge.

Man feared dead, police, Amotekun deployed as Osun carnival turns bloody
One person was reportedly killed in Igbaye, Osun State, on Monday, following a crisis that erupted during the end-of-the-year carnival celebration in the town. “The crisis started during an end-of-the-year carnival. “A man was shot and he was rushed to a hospital in Okuku, where he was declared dead.
