The AfCFTA Nigeria office and the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, both agencies of the Federal Government, warned that the seeming absence of quarantine checks at some points of entry into the country would lead to the infiltration of unwholesome products. On whether quarantine checks were not at all Nigerian borders, Isegbe said, “We’ve been delineated from some locations at the airports and seaports and we can’t operate. Every African country has landmass and the development of the economy of African countries always focuses on agriculture. Isegbe added, “The quarantine service is strategic and the quarantine service of every nation plays a statutory role in the survival of their economy. “And the people who will check that are those in the quarantine service.

Deprived of their star player, Ghana lost in the harshest way, 11-10 on penalties against the Ivory Coast. Ghana do enjoy a legacy of success at AFCON, but may also be haunted by the phantoms of their recent failures and near misses. Exciting young talents Kamaldeen Sulemana, of Rennes, and Ajax star Mohammed Kudus will provide real pace, trickery, cut and thrust to the Ghana attack. In Group C, Ghana have two tough assignments: Gabon and Morocco, the latter a genuine tournament heavyweight. There are some real quality goalkeepers at the tournament – Edouard Mendy, Yassine Bounou, Andre Onana – but none of them play for Ghana.

THE Igbo Progressive Union has faulted the appointment of Mr Nnamdi Ukeagu from Abia State as a commissioner in the Independent National Electoral Commission, describing the appointment as unfair to Enugu and Ebonyi States. The group argued that Ukeagu’s appointment had given Imo, Abia and Benue States an undue advantage in the commission, stressing that a commissioner, Festus Okoye, is already representing a sub-group comprising Abia, Imo and Benue States in INEC. Ibeano represented the Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi sub-group in the commission. Replacing Ibeano with someone from Enugu or Ebonyi, the group noted, was in keeping with the good conscience, fairness, justice and equity as the cardinal indexes of the federal character principles “which Mr President is known for.”The political pressure group, therefore, admonished the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), to “review and reverse this perversion of justice and consider appointing a well-qualified and credible candidate from the sub-zone of Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu.”It stated, “This sub-zone cannot afford to have less and undignified representative after having such high profile academic and erudite scholar of Professor Okechukwu Ibeano’s calibre.

The Proprietor, Oak Business School (Monotechnic), Dr Lance Elakama, has appealed to stakeholders in the education sector to train learners to become employers of labour and not job seekers. Elakama maintained that the nation’s education system was too academic, saying it prepares graduates for jobs instead of grooming them to become employers of labour. “The school has secured accreditation in five courses, namely Marketing, Accountancy, Business Administration, Banking and Finance as well as Computer Science,” he said. Elakama said, “We have competent and qualified lecturers on ground, we want to give our students practical exposure, opening them up to our businesses and software during internships. One of the lecturers, Ogbonnna Young, said the school would run both full time and part-time, he also assured of uninterrupted academic session.

Those who put together the signed bill seem to have revenues from crude oil, for distribution, in mind rather than government independence from oil. A time when Nigerian oil men are sought, the way Nigerian doctors are employed all over the world. Did the PIA help envisage a time when we stop the export of crude oil and export only refined products? I mentioned earlier that we might have to drink’ our crude oil, indeed there is a positive value-adding way for us to consume our oil. How do we make sure this Act does not put limits to a Nigerian Elon Musk emerging to disrupt the energy industry.

Challenges drive investors to Togo, Cotonou, Ghana, CameroonEU countries reject 82 per cent of Nigeria’s agro-allied exportsAlready, Togo has overtaken Nigeria to become the leading port in West Africa. The group stressed that the CBN FX administration has not impacted both the nation and trade positively. It said the policies promote trade irregularities and non-compliance on the part of the trading public, especially as they struggle to stay in business. The group said FX illiquidity is a contributory factor to the ailing economy, especially considering the fact that the nation is still import-dependent. The group also expressed displeasure at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), shipping companies, terminal operators and others for declaring excess revenues amidst low cargo throughputs.
