Team TransitoryInflation has moved higher across many countries amid a global reopening, supply bottlenecks, a worldwide energy crunch, higher oil prices, and surging commodity prices. However, a number of central bankers maintain that the current episode of higher inflation is transitory in nature. BSP Governor Ben Diokno recently stated that he is part of Team Transitory. Powell, Lagarde, Yellen: “Inflation is transitory”Fed Chair Jay Powell, European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde, and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen are outspoken members of Team Transitory. Vaccine mandateAllDay supermarket gives a discount of P200 for a minimum single-receipt purchase worth P3,000 to fully vaccinated shoppers. Consumers are now asking major retail outlets and service providers if they have similar perks for the fully vaccinated. On the other hand, there are private companies that obtained enough vaccine doses for all their employees and immediate families. So it’s understandable that employers would want to announce truthfully to the world that their workforce is 100 percent fully vaccinated. The rules for the vaccine mandate, which will affect about two-thirds of the private sector workforce, will be out this month.

JLL, a property market consultancy in the US, is predicting an uptick of in-person shopping in brick and mortar stores this holiday season. There is a term for it … revenge shopping or when consumers make up for lost time with increased spending… It is expected to increase foot traffic at retailers this holiday season. In the Philippines where travel restrictions vary from LGU to LGU, things seem to be improving. Some LGUs like Boracay and Bohol are doing away with the RT-PCR test as a condition for fully vaccinated domestic tourists to enter. Under that proposal, arriving fully vaccinated passengers will no longer be locked up in their rooms and can go around the resort provided 100 percent of the resort staff are fully vaccinated.

In June, the country announced the end of the polio outbreak following the 18-month outbreak response to vaccinate over 11 million children — many of whom received polio drops during the Covid-19 pandemic. "In the Philippines, children under one year old receive their primary doses of the polio vaccines during routine immunization — three doses of polio drops and one dose of inactivated polio vaccine. This month, the DoH has launched the 'Catch-up Routine Immunization' to ensure delivery of National Immunization Program services to children," he said.

“The further we go, the more we pay for fuel without guarantees about the catch,” Nahal says, leading a line of five boats, the air heavy with the stench of diesel and sardines. Israel’s navy fully controls the waters off Gaza’s 40-kilometer (25-mile) long coastline, and regularly restricts or expands the size of the fishing zone in response to security conditions. But Yussef, 22, keeping watch on Nahal’s boat, complains that with all Gaza’s fishermen forced into the same small area, they struggle to catch enough to turn a profit. “Here are the fish, catch them, for it is my fish that I love,” the men sing as the catch is hauled up. Exhausted and back in port, the fishermen sell the catch in the busy port, where auctioneers shout prices to waiting wholesalers.
